The vision of the Welcome Churches organisation is “for every refugee in the UK to be welcomed by their local church”.
To that end they are offering UK churches the resources and training to make congregations into welcoming communities, including how to:
- provide help and support to refugees arriving in your community;
- work with other local refugee agencies and the wider community;
- include refugees in every part of church life.
As well as offering a welcome audit which reviews what your local community offers refugees who are new to the area, Welcome Churches will work with you to pull together an action plan tailored for your church.
Training on offer includes education on who are the refugees arriving to the UK, working cross-culturally, safeguarding, befriending, how to coordinate a project as well as building community and sharing good news.
And your church will be part of the wider Welcome Churches network, with expert advice available to help you respond to the challenges and encouragements of working
with refugees, and how to make best use of resources and programmes like welcome boxes, welcome houses and welcome holidays.
